چکیده

Abstract The north-east sector of the Himalaya is one most active tectonic belts, with complex geological and features. b-value spatial correlation dimension (D c ) earthquake distribution in its adjacent regions (20–32°N 88–98°E) are estimated present study. Based on seismicity faulting pattern, region divided into five regions, namely (i) South-Tibet, (ii) Eastern-Syntaxis, (iii) Himalayan-Frontal Arc, (iv) Arakan-Yoma belt (v) Shillong-Plateau. A homogeneous catalogue 1,416 earthquakes (mb ≥ 4.5) has been prepared from a revised ISC (International Seismological Centre). appraised by maximum likelihood estimation method, while D values have calculated integral method; b-values 1.08 ± 0.09, 1.13 0.05, 0.92 1.00 0.03 0.98 0.08 computed for Shillong-Plateau region, respectively. respective 1.36 0.02, 1.74 0.04, 1.57 0.01, 1.8 1.83 0.02. These > 1.5, except South-Tibet (1.36 0.02). around global average value (1.0) reflect stress level seismic activity high refer to heterogeneity seismogenic sources.

Fractal dimension and earthquake frequency-magnitude distribution in the North of Central-East Iran Blocks (NCEIB)

The Gutenberg–Richter parameters (a and b), fractal dimension (DC), and relationships between these parameters are calculated for different regions of the North of Central-East Iran Blocks (NCEIB). The whole examined area (between 34°-36° N and 55°-61° E) is divided into 55 equal square grids. Both the a and b values for the frequency-magnitude distribution (FMD) and the fractal dimension (DC) ...

empirical relationships between magnitude and some faulting parameters for earthquakes in iran and adjacent regions

to assess seismic hazard, it is essential to estimate the potential seismicity, particularly estimation of size of the largest earthquake that can be identified by a distinct fault or earthquake source. one of the methods applied to estimate magnitude of earthquake is use of empirical relationships between magnitude and fault parameters. fault parameters for the earthquakes from early instrumen...
